Dark Souls 3 Anti-Cheating Patch Backfires

Dark Souls 3 has not had the smoothest launch since it was released on PC. While it is a great game there has been a lot of cheating. On top of that development company From Software was not the most clear on how they were going to address the problem. Players everywhere were initially excited when a patch showed up over the weekend that was said to fix the issue. That excitement quickly diminished as the patch also broke the game.

“We have heard your concerns about being victims of deviant behavior while playing online multiplayer,” From Software said in an update on Steam. “We have released a patch solving some of the issues you can encounter.”

The patch intended to stop the cheating from happening, including in certain cases where the player was:

  • Being sent immediately to your world
  • Being sent to the Firelink Shrine
  • Being changed in full Dragon Body Status

The patch also brought with it a bunch of glitching:

From Software ended up pulling the patch simply stating that they hope to “reinstate the patch ASAP.”

The company also stated that if you have not cheated you will be safe:

“If you fall victim to one of the bugs previously fixed, don’t worry, you won’t be penalized,” From Software announced in a statement. “We will keep you posted as soon as we have more info. Thank you for your understanding.”
